Charles Cooper Is an award winning Chicago based lighting designer for theatre and dance . His regional and Chicago credits include work for Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre, Indiana Repertory Theatre, Writers’ Theatre, Drury Lane Oakbrook, Victory Gardens Theatre , Northlight Theatre, First Stage Milwaukee, American Theatre Company, Peninsula Players Theatre, The House Theatre of Chicago, Salt Creek Ballet and many more. Charles is proud to be an Associate Artist of Chicago’s TimeLine Theatre where he has designed more than 15 productions. Frequent collaborators include directors Elizabeth Margolius, Greg Vinkler, and Michael Patrick Thornton; designers Keith Pitts, Jack Magaw, Andrew Hansen, Chris Kriz, and Rachel Healy. He studied at Purchase College and De Paul University. Charles has received one Joseph Jefferson award, and six nominations for Outstanding Lighting Design , and two After Dark Awards for best overall design. Since 2002 He has worked at Hinsdale Central High School teaching students the basics of theatrical design and production. Through his teaching and design work, Charles is proud to be inspiring a new generation of theatre artists. He lives in Oak Park, Illinois with his wife Angela, Sons Ethan and Gavin , and golden-doodle Izzy. Charles has been a proud member of United Scenic Artists Local 829 since 2005.
